Front Cover Analysis

This is my favourite of the magazine covers I am looking at because of the colour scheme. The main image is in black and white, which wouldn't work as well for a less known band. Because Green Day are known on a world-wide scale, it doesn't take a lot of colour to notice them. There is still some colour on the magazine because it needs to stand out from the others on a shelf, so the striking pink is very well placed on the abbreviated masthead. I do like the way the title is abbreviated and slightly behind the image because it reinforces the brand. We are expected to already know what this magazine is called.

I also like that there is no background to this image. The plain white behind the band emphasises their importance over the magazine brand.

Another thing I find attractive on the cover that I would like to have on my own magazine is the main sell-line's relevance to the band. It is not just about the band, it relates on a deeper lever. The backwards E in 'Green' reinforces the bands punk genre, as well as the blocked out swearing in the sub-head.

AS Brief

For my AS Media coursework I have been asked to create the front cover, contents page and double page spread of my own magazine, containing my own photography and articles. This blog is to record my research and planning.

I have decided to create a rock music magazine because it fits with the genre of music that I know most about. Also, I think I will find it easier to write original articles and take pictures for a rock magazine because I have read so many of them.
